When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I started in 1995. One of my mom’s coworkers told her about Special Olympics.

Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?

I've been to nine other National Games. In 1998 in Sudbury, Ontario, I was there for softball. 2000 in Ottawa for figure skating. 2002 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, for soccer. 2004 in Charlottetown, P.E.I., for figure skating. 2006 in Brandon, Manitoba, for soccer. 2008 in Quebec City for figure skating. 2010 in London, Ontario, for soccer. 2012 in St. Albert, Alberta, for figure skating and 2016 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, for figure skating.

What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?

I got two gold medals. I was happy with the way I skated.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

I am happy that I can represent my province one more time.

What is your goal for these National Games?

Have a clean program and be on time for my dances and to come back home with two gold medals.

What does competing at National Games mean to you?

I have worked hard in my sport and I demonstrate to others what I can do.

What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?

I'm able to express myself on the ice through music.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

Figure skating in front of 80 family and friends at the 2000 National Games in Ottawa.

What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?

From the first day that I have joined Special Olympics it has changed my life for the better. I don’t feel out of place and I made a lot of friends.

What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?

I will be doing 10-pin bowling this year for the first time. I also play in softball, soccer, track and field, golf, and curling.

Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?

I love to try new things and to help other people so they can get better in what they do. I have been to eight Special Olympics World Games for three sports (figure skating, soccer, and softball). I have worked at the Hudson’s Bay Company for 22 years and I’m working full-time hours.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)

Dedicated.
