When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

A friend suggested I try three years ago.

Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?

This is my first Nationals.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

Going to National Games means that my hard work is recognized and rewarded with opportunities to excel.

What is your goal for these National Games?

To represent my hometown and compete against the best in Canada.

What does competing at National Games mean to you?

It's proof that I am worthy of competing on the national stage.

What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?

I like that it is both a competition with others and a competition with myself.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

The last Provincial Games, which was my first time, and achieving a silver medal in the team event. It was the first time I have ever won a medal in anything.

What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?

To volunteers, I would say, what you offer is not only a chance for those with disabilities to get out and experience the world, but you offer a chance for those with little hope of glory. You give them a chance to bask in the respect of others, and that's a rare thing.

What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?

10-pin bowling, floor hockey, and golf.

Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?

I only started three years ago and even though I am 38 and struggling to repair bad habits, it is not too late to achieve greatness and recognition.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)

Juggernaut.
