Special Olympics PEI’s Male and Female Athletes of the Year to Attend Special Olympics Festival

Special Olympics PEI is delighted to announce that the Special Olympics PEI Male and Female Athletes of the Year, Jeremy Wall and Ellen MacNearney, will attend the upcoming Special Olympics Festival as Celebrity Guests.

Ellen MacNearney, Montague, has been involved with Special Olympics for 9 years.  Following an outstanding showing at the 2017 Special Olympics New Brunswick Summer Games, in which Ellen won 6 Gold Medals, out of 6 races, Ellen was named to Team PEI 2018.  In addition to her successes in the pool, Ellen has also accomplished great things on skis. Ellen, still relatively new to the sport of Nordic Skiing at the 2011 Provincial Games, came out of nowhere to win 2 Gold and 1 Silver Medals, earning her a spot on Team PEI ahead of the 2012 Special Olympics National Winter Games in St. Albert. Ellen stole the spotlight in St. Albert winning 3 Gold Medals. Due to this great success, Ellen was selected to Team Canada and traveled to PyeongChang, Republic of Korea, to compete at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games. On the world stage Ellen represented her country to the best of her abilities, and won 1 Gold and 1 Bronze medal.

Jeremy Wall, Summerside, has been involved with Special Olympics for 11 years. Jeremy has a very competitive spirit. He wants to win and he works hard. He was very successful at the 2017 Special Olympics New Brunswick Provincial Games, and will be representing PEI at the 2018 National Summer Games in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Jeremy has improved track times and field events, winning gold medals in every event at the Provincial Games. Jeremy puts forth the best effort each week, which reflects a role model for others in the program He sets goals and works to achieve them.

Jeremy Wall and Ellen MacNearney joins an impressive list of celebrity guests confirmed for the 2018 Gala include L. A. Kings’ Defenseman, Dion Phaneuf, Actress & Model, Elisha Cuthbert, Retired NHL Player, John Chabot, Ottawa Senator, Chris Wideman, Professional Hockey Player, Darryl Boyce and Professional Hockey Coach, Dave Cameron.  New York Islanders, Ross Johnston, Tampa Bay Lighting, Alex Gallant and Columbus Blue Jackets, Brett Gallant. The Special Olympics Festival is Special Olympics PEI’s largest annual fundraiser.  Funds raised enrich the lives of Islanders with an intellectual disability through sport. Special Olympics PEI relies on these funds to offer grass roots programing, quality competitions, trained coaches, and much more for athletes of all ages and ability levels. The Festival is a two part event which includes the Summerside Luncheon (being held at the Credit Union Place) and the Enriching Lives Gala (in Charlottetown at the Delta Prince Edward by Marriott Hotel). This year’s event is being held on Tuesday, June 26th.

Tickets for the Luncheon are $40 each, or $300 for a corporate table of 8, while tickets for the Gala are $110 each, or $880 for a corporate table of 8, and are available by calling Charity Sheehan at 902-368-8919.
