2018 Bowling Provincials Recap

5-Pin Bowling

Special Olympics PEI hosted our annual 5-Pin Bowling Provincials May 26-27 in Charlottetown. A total of 158 athletes and 68 coaches and volunteers participated.

Each May, Special Olympics PEI brings together all Bowling programs in the provinces for the two day 5-Pin Bowling Provincial tournament. Again this year the Halifax Bowling program from Nova Scotia attended as well.  5-Pin Bowling is Special Olympics PEI's most popular program.  The Bowling Provincials are a great competitive weekend with bowling being the spotlight.

Although the focus is on competing, athletes and coaches also have the opportunity to meet fellow competitors and take part in a Special Olympics dance.  Again this year, a Healthy Athletes screening was offered - Health Promotion.

Thank you to UPEI for both hosting our overnight guests and our dinner and dance. Tank you as well to Murphy's Community Center for being our competition venue.

Special Olympics PEI had the opportunity to partner with a number of companies for the year's 5-Pin Bowling Provincials. This year we were pleased to have East Coast Cresting, the RBC Royal Bank, the Canadian 5-Pin Association and the Government of Canada as our Event Sponsors. We also had support from our Community Sponsors: City of Charlottetown, PEI Preserve Company and Souris Main Street Mall. Thank you as well to the Souris Lions Club for being Friends of the Event.

Once again at this year's 5-Pin Bowling Provincials, during the Awards Ceremony, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics made a formal cheque presentation. Following another phenomenal year of fundraising events, the LETR raised over $28,000 for Special Olympics PEI. These funds support grassroots programs across the province.
